ProtecTIER is the only truly enterprise class de-duplication platform on the market today. ProtecTIER has been deployed in close to 100 Fortune 500 (or equivalent) data centers around the world. Capable of inline de-duplication throughput of 450MB/s or more, ProtecTIER delivers the speed required by the most demanding data centers, while eliminating the need for a dedicated “post-process” window that is required by most competing de-duplication products.

Inline De-Duplication: The Only Choice
While the market for de-duplication products is still young, one fact has been firmly established: only inline de-duplication will be viable for the lion's share of data center customers. Inline processing means that the de-duplication process occurs in real-time, as the data is ingested by the system. The alternative method is “post-processing” which means that de-duplication runs as a secondary process, after the backup job completes. The fundamental problem with post-process de-duplication is that it imposes a significant burden on the operations of the data center, essentially elongating the overall backup window. This burden manifests itself in two ways: first, cloning to physical tape for offsite DR protection is usually hampered. Secondly, in many cases the de-duplication window will run into the next-day’s backup window.

ProtecTIER eliminates this burden by enabling 450MB/s performance, while simultaneously performing the data de-duplication. No other de-duplication product can come close to the performance of ProtecTIER.

ProtecTIER is a software data protection platform that runs on a standard Linux server and connects to a standard Fiber-Channel attached disk array. These three elements combine to form a high capacity, high performance and highly scalable solution for backup, recovery and archive data.

ProtecTIER is available in two categories of offerings. The ProtecTIER Enterprise offerings address the needs of the enterprise data center in both scalability and throughput performance. ProtecTIER Mid-Range offerings are tuned for mid-sized environments and are priced to fit within the budget of the mid-sized customer.
