How It Works

VTF Open runs on a dedicated server that is connected to Fibre Channel attached disk arrays. The combination of the software, server and disk array create a virtual tape solution that appears to the backup application as one or many real tape libraries.

The backup application accesses drives, robotics, and cartridges within the VTF Open solution, just as it would a physical tape library. Because the data actually resides on disk, the user experiences dramatic improvements to the backup and recovery operation.

• Easy Implementation. VTF Open is a “plug-and-play” system. Customers can leverage the power of disk-based backup and recovery, without incurring the difficulties of implementing an entirely new operation. Because it emulates standard tape libraries, it is compatible with all leading backup applications, and requires no integration effort.

• Immediate Availability. After the VTF Open server has been connected to the disk array, the user follows several easy steps to define virtual devices (libraries, drives, cartridges) through an intuitive user interface. Once completed, the VTF Open solution is connected to the backup application hosts and the VTF Open devices are immediately available for backup usage.

• Enhanced Performance. VTF Open provides 2:1 compression, reducing the storage needs by half and dramatically lowering the solution’s total cost of ownership.
